Russian Fairy Tale Fashion

Check out these ladies:

They could be from one of these stories, like Vasilisa the Beautiful by Ivan Bilibin:

You'll need long hair in braids:

Red Lipstick (Mac's Russian Red is PERFECT):

Fur (vintage, please!) or Faux Fur. This vintage raccoon fur hat is darling:

and something to redden your cheeks with that perfect poison-flush. Try this cheek stain by Tarte:

Get inspired by curling up with a book of Russian Fairy Tales... like this one, by Alexander Alexeieff:

put on a cup of tea (make sure the cup is vintage, and decorated with scenes of a Russian city circa 1800):

or run out, with your red lips, cheeks, and braids, in this dress, by the designer Mod Cloth, called "Taking It Breezy Dress":

...you'll probably meet a fox that's actually a prince.

max ernst, unicorn heels, and a love for opium

Max Ernst's collages were really the inspiration for this look-- they are ripe with decadence & despair. Pair this with the brilliant Confessions of an Opium Eater & days spent only in bed....

[Julien Macdonald Lace-detailed silk-chiffon dress ($4,395) net-a-porter, Jeffrey Campbell MICHELLE Unicorn Heels ($120) solestruck, Cognitive Ability Necklace ($30) modcloth, Black Feather Fascinator ($20) zad jewelry, Black Wisdom Hookah ($85) marharaja hookah, Un Semaine De Bonte: A Surrealist Novel in Collage ($12) Max Ernst , The Confessions of an English Opium-Eater ($6) Thomas De Quincey]

madwoman

I love Roberto Cavalli's madwoman-in-the-attic look. Ankle length lace, nude fur strung over the shoulder, and the crazy-eyes of the model make this a total "little girl playing dress up" number.

kitchen wench & miss priss

that's how i'd describe louis vuitton's fall/winter 2010 collection. full skirts and tight bodies spell kitchen wench, while muted fabrics, buttoned simplicity, and sleeked hair all spell miss priss.

corsetry in an urban environment

Dark Arc's remake (starring Robert Pattinson and Emma Watson) will be interesting if only for the costumes. Emma Watson was spotted wearing a Louis Vuitton Corset, and it's a great mix of urban camo and fairy tale restraint. Alas, her cup don't runneth over --
